We had a great trip to this museum and hidden in the collection is a few Monet paintings and a Matisse.
The current collection of Skagen is beautiful.
We didn’t have time to go around on the grounds and next time we will do that.
The collection is nice especially the French impressionist collection. I would have loved to give the place full stars but I had to remove a star for each of the following:
- the place is overpriced. At 130dkk / 18€ it’s more expensive than the State Art Museum which has 3 extensive floors of paintings. The low number of visitors in this remote Ordrupgaard location only confirms that the price tag was not set correctly.
- the audio guide was in danish only, but why??! They advertise it at the entrance that they have wifi to download the app and then the museum app is nice, has a map and descriptions and then… you discover that the audio is in danish only. Quite a deception. For the entrance price I paid (above) I consider at least the English audio guide must be included in the price.
Lovely return visit, always a must do when in Copenhagen. This time there was a Michael and Anna Ancher exhibition which despite the slightly chaotic layout (more an issue with the Hadid extension than anything else) was informative and very thorough in the coverage of their lives in Skagen. The new extension below ground that houses the French collection is a great addition giving space for much more to be shown in relatively conventional museum/gallery spaces, it was very calming. The old house has had a bit of a makeover and feels fresher/simpler and the Hammershøi and Ring room is probably worth the entrance fee alone. Only negative is the overpriced cafe. We used to enjoy the cafe space but now not so much, the quality isn’t as good as it was but the prices have continued to rise. Shame really.
Just visited for food and the sculpture garden as didn't have time to see inside the museum. Will be back to see the collection another time. Food was great and really enjoyed the bamboo sculpture
there are 4 areas to this park: mansion, hadid building, outdoor exhibit and juul house... the mansion has old paintings and furniture... the hadid bldg houses special exhibits and the cafeteria (to the left of the ticket counter and down the ramp)... the outdoor exhibit has large art pieces... the bamboo sculpture is a must do... climb to top to get a view of the "park"... i covered the juul house in a separate review... with lunch at the cafeteria you can easily spend 3 hrs here
Lovely, peaceful little gallery but very expensive if you only come to see the permanent exhibition, which is small. I was also disappointed by the lack of art by women in this gallery, it felt very much like a gallery from the past in that sense. I wouldn’t recommend unless there is an interesting, more diverse special exhibition on.
I visited the café and art garden.
Great work making the artwork a playground for children and adults alike :-)
Free to enter.
The cafe served good tea and cakes.
Recommended for a few hours with children
Brilliant exhibition of Anna and Michael Ancher’s work. Many canvases on show along with excellent descriptions written in both Danish and English. Well worth seeing. The permanent exhibition of French renaissance paintings are also excellent.
